Action Plan: The Cloppenburg Climate Corner in the Oldenburger Muensterland Pilot Region

May 23, 2022

On “Heldensamstag”, a day of action organised by the Cloppenburg Volunteer Agency, the TeRRIFICA team from the University of Vechta, together with members of the local heritage association and other volunteers, redesigned a fallow area on Rathausweg in Cloppenburg. The aim was to upgrade the previously rather unkempt green space of about 200 m² and to create a natural recreation, learning and experience area. The Cloppenburg Climate Corner provides suggestions and concrete examples of how different habitats for plants and animals can be designed in a simple way and at the same time aspects of climate adaptation are taken into account.

The plan for the redesign measures was developed in advance with the support of the local heritage association and with the participation of young people. Ideas, wishes and concerns of employees of the neighbouring businesses were also included.

A permanent team has come together to maintain the area. In a short time, the Cloppenburg Climate Corner has become a place of encounter and exchange and is open to all interested parties to participate. In the final months of TeRRIFICA, information-boards on the topic of “climate adaptation in the garden” will be installed.
