„Health in a context of climate change“, debated in an online interview

јул 7, 2020

The Catalan Association of Public Universities (ACUP) organized on June 2, 2020 a virtual interview (available on Youtube) with Xavier Rodó, head of the Climate and Health Program of the Barcelona Institute for Global Health (ISGlobal), within the framework of the European project H2020 TeRRIFICA (Territorial RRI Fostering Innovative Climate Action) and with the presence of more than thirty people.

The conversation, led by Quim Brugué, Professor of Political Science at the University of Girona (UdG), focused on the theme of „Health in a context of climate change“ and the following conclusions were drawn:

Xavier Rodó (ISGlobal)
  • Climate change is a problem with many faces, one of which is health.
  • Covid-19 is an example of the close relationship between global health and human health.
  • There is a heterogeneous effect of climate change in terms of socioeconomic parameters.
  • A balance is needed between science and citizen participation on the one hand, and government action on the other.
  • The interrelationship of scales in climate change is an intrinsic feature.
  • Economic interests and environmental benefits are often conflicting.

The ACUP participates as a partner in the TeRRIFICA project, financed under the European programme H2020 and dedicated to influencing policies on mitigation and adaptation to climate change through responsible research and innovation (RRI) and the co-creation of knowledge between relevant actors and the citizens of its European pilot regions.

In particular, over the three years, the ACUP has been leading the communication and coordinating the pilot region corresponding to the metropolitan area of Barcelona, involving experts in climate change from the Catalan public universities, as well as representatives of the public administration, the private sector and civil society.

To know more, a document in which these conclusions are developed is available.
