On Friday 18 June 2021, staff members and students of Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań took part in a breakfast with H.E. Anna Louise Clunes, the Ambassador of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland to Poland.
The meeting was held at the Mercure Hotel at the invitation of the British Embassy in Poland and was accompanied by Włodzimierz Walkowiak, the Honorary Consul in Poznań.
During the breakfast, several issues were raised concerning the scientific work of our University as well as students’ activity, connected especially with the Poznań geographical unit represented by both physical and socio-economic geographers. There was a lot of interest in projects implemented at our University—both TeRRIFICA (carried out at the Faculty of Human Geography and Planning), Green University and the preparation of recommendations for the Poznań Civic Panel. What was also presented was the objectives of scientific projects adopted by the Faculty of Geographic and Geological Sciences—the exploration of Siberia (along with British partners), paleoecological research, studies on nature-based solutions, restitution and protection of peatbogs in urban and forest areas (scientific research and popularisation) as well as the global warming experiments conducted by this Faculty. Another important topic was fair energy and ecological transition in eastern Wielkopolska supported by experts of both geographic faculties of AMU. The Ambassador was also very interested in students’ activity in the Academic Scientific Club of Spatial Planning, Student Scientific Club of Geographers and Scientific Club of Naturalists.
The meeting was attended by the staff of the Faculty of Human Geography and Planning – Prof. dr hab. Paweł Churski, Dr Joanna Morawska-Jancelewicz, Patryk Kaczmarek (MSc BEng) and the staff member of the Faculty of Geographic and Geological Sciences – Prof. dr hab. Mariusz Lamentowicz together with students Daria Wochal (member of the Student Scientific Club of Geographers) and Oskar Kołacki (the Scientific Club of Naturalists).
